Our values and culture

At Mercer, our values and culture are key to what we do; the way we do business, the way we treat clients and one another, the balance we keep between work and our wider lives… it all impacts on our success as a global organisation. Our values are;

Integrity

We hold ourselves to the highest standards for ethical behavior, fairness and compliance with the law. Without integrity, nothing else matters.

Clients first

Passion. Commitment. Our dedication to our clients defines who we are and why we do what we do.

Diversity

Harnessing the diverse backgrounds, experiences and approaches of our people isn't just a business necessity—it's the right thing to do. Diversity also means respect for different points of view—and to earn it, you have to give it.

Teamwork

Our collaborative spirit allows us to leverage the full power of our capabilities on behalf of our clients; the quality and character of our people ensure we enjoy our work

Professionalism

We inspire confidence from our clients through our expertise, commitment to excellence, responsiveness, respect for confidentiality and objectivity.

Agility

Being flexible, nimble and open to new ideas is a prerequisite in today's business environment. We anticipate and act to seize business opportunities and address our clients' most complex issues.

Innovation

Unique challenges require unique approaches. Our clients demand it, and we demand it of ourselves.

Social responsibility

We are committed to making a meaningful contribution to society through the work that we do.

Awards

To us, awards are proof that we are providing our clients with exceptional services. They are also a great motivational tool: when you win an award once, the onus is on you to try and win it again.

These are just some of the accolades we’ve received in recent years:

Employee Benefits Consultant of the Year 2009, Financial Times Business Pensions & Investment Provider Awards

European Pensions Awards 2009. Risk Management Firm of the Year

UK Pensions Awards 2009, Invesment Consultancy

Work-life balance

It’s our business to know all about workforce motivation and reward, and it starts with our own people. In this fast-moving, often intense professional consulting arena, we’ve long been advocates of the work/life balance principle, doing all we can to ensure you have time and energy for a life beyond the office. For example, our flexible working policy means you can ask to work from home when the need arises.

We’re flexible on holiday arrangements too, and a sabbaticals programme gives you the chance to take an unpaid career break, to do whatever you want to do knowing you can come back and take up where you left off. We’ve also set up paternity and maternity arrangements which are generous by any standards. And while we’re not shy of working hard at Mercer, we also know how to play, with a full calendar of social and sporting events.

Diversity

At Mercer, we realise that it’s our people who make working here so rewarding. That’s why we’re so committed to recognising and respecting differences.

We’ve worked hard to create an inclusive environment in which every individual is valued and respected. In practice, this means allowing everyone the opportunity to realise their potential in order to achieve both their goals and those of our business.

Career mobility

They say that travel broadens the mind, and we firmly believe that gaining experience in different parts of the world gives you new dimensions and perspectives, both personally and professionally.

Being a global company, we certainly create the opportunity, but we don’t make it an obligation. After all, uprooting to go and live abroad doesn’t suit everyone. But for the majority of our people who would welcome the experience, our international assignments policy ensures it’s not just down to the luck of the draw. Depending on your qualifications and interests, the scheme enables you to apply for and undertake an overseas work placement typically lasting about two years.
